As far as the gun politics go, I believe that for the most part both sides of the political spectrum actually have the same goal in mind - a safer world for us and our children. How to achieve that is the big question. And, despite being a fervent proponent of the right to keep and bear arms, I do understand the initial reaction of those who want to restrict firearms availability.
My only concern is this - if and when such restrictions are put in place, the only ones who will be limited in their firearms possession will be those who abide by the law. The criminal element, and the desperate psychopath who seeks to murder citizens on a grand scale will still find access to those weapons. Somehow, I just don't believe that limiting those who bear arms legally will eliminate mass gun violence.
